I wonder how many people I know are actively using Google Chat outside of being required to use it for work? It’s a pretty neat system and yet I don’t hear anyone talking about it, even though GMail is so prevalent.

Just spent about 15 very frantic minutes trying to figure out why my very full Inbox suddenly contained no messages. Did I somehow delete them? Could I restore them from a backup? What was actually in there that I meant to save somewhere and obviously didn’t? Ultimately, I discovered that I somehow enabled a filtered view such that no messages were displayed. Yep, one stupid check box and, for a few minutes, my life seemed suddenly out of control. This experience has me thinking though: Why do I have so much stuff in my inbox and do I really need most of it? And, for those messages I do need, why is it that I haven’t found the time to put them somewhere safer before now? These are the things I ponder while I wait for my heart rate to return to a more normal range.
